Can Spark Clear Aligners Be a Solution for Bite Problems?
September 12, 2024
Does your bite not line up the way it should? Oftentimes, this type of orthodontic issue is corrected with traditional braces. But if you would rather not have to worry about unsightly brackets and wires, you may consider Spark as an alternative. Can clear aligners help correct your bite problem? Your dentist is here with the facts about this versatile treatment.
How Does Spark Work?
Spark uses a series of clear aligners made out of transparent plastic to gradually move the teeth toward better positions. Each aligner needs to be worn for at least 20 to 22 hours a day, and you will need to switch to a new aligner roughly every two weeks. There are a number of benefits of wearing clear aligners instead of traditional braces. For one thing, the aligners are removable and thus don’t come with any diet restrictions.
Can Spark Treat Bite Problems?
The short answer is yes; Spark can indeed be used to correct a wide range of bite problems. Specifically, it can often address the following issues:
- An overbite, which causes the upper teeth to come down too far in front of the lower teeth.
- An underbite, which puts the lower teeth in front of the upper teeth.
- A crossbite, which is characterized by certain upper teeth sitting inside the lower teeth when you close your mouth.
- An open bite, which is when the upper and lower teeth fail to meet.
It should be noted, though, that Spark won’t necessarily be a viable choice for every patient. Sometimes a given bite problem may be too severe for clear aligners to correct. That said, if you only have mild to moderate bite issues, Spark can be worth considering.
Is Spark Right for You?
The only way to know for sure whether Spark is the best choice for your smile is to speak to your dentist. They will be able to take a look at the current state of your teeth and determine what steps need to be taken to correct any alignment issues that might be present. Then they can advise you on whether or not Spark is worth pursuing in your case.
Correcting overbite and other bite problems can go a long way toward improving your quality of life, and Spark can be excellent for discreetly making the necessary changes. If you think Spark may be beneficial for your grin, reach out to your dentist today!
